COXO ABAYARDE
Coxo Abayarde is, initially, an exploration of the traditional fifteenth birthday party for girls and its defining role in the diaspora. This quest leads dancer Santiago Colorado to create a unique movement from his hip and explore reggaeton and the virtual phenomenon of salsa choke. What discourses of liberation do these technocultural devices convey?
Based on the fluid inertia between bodies that the choke creates and the scenario for the twerk, this performance reflects on the hybrid body resulting from migration. Santiago, his hips and his musical selection immerse us in a technologically expansive mutating experience.
