L’AIGUA I EL FUTUR

L’aigua i el futur (Water and the future) is an exercise in clairvoyant speculation on the future of Les Terres de l’Ebre, the territory where I was born, which is in substantial danger of being partially engulfed by water, even before the current threat of climate emergency.

My idea is to draw up an agenda of appointments along the Ebro basin with seers, visionaries, witches, tarot readers… I want to ask: what will happen to the river? And the land? How will the map and people’s lives be deformed? What can happen, more or less?

It is about recording all these interviews about the future, modulating maps and intervening in the topography as a result.

Would it serve as a dialogue to generate alternatives? Would it be an excuse to think about the future, to map a reality and bring it to occupy space based on other forms of knowledge? We approach water, the root of every body and the measure of life.

Now that it is difficult for us to imagine futures, perhaps we have to access these possibilities from other places, perhaps we have to build from these hidden places. Hand in hand with mystical sensibilities, we can generate stories that can make problems or solutions evident, since it seems that empirical and substantial data is never enough to make us aware of them. Perhaps eyes that see the future will be revealing and take us to alternative realities to those that are foreseen.

L’aigua i el futur is part of the collaboration between Lo Pati, Centre d’Art de les Terres de l’Ebre, and Sala d’Art Jove.

The project is accompanied by Anna Dot.
