MAGICAL THEYS

Magical Theys is an installation and performative proposal that reflects on non-binary and fluid gender through magical fictions, taking as inspiration the anime and manga of Magical Girls. These narratives are dominated using special dresses that appear in a ritualised transformation called Henshin. This act of performance linked to clothing is a powerful mechanism of identity construction, related to the creation of imaginaries and dissident corporealities.

The intention is to re-signify the imaginary of the knight and heroic figures as a speculation that is imagined from the queer. To this end, transparent, ornamented, vulnerable, flexible, fragile and hybrid armours will be activated, which, through drag-king practices, serve to model deviant corporealities that overcome binomials.

The project is accompanied by Guillem Jiménez.
