VINADER

Vinader is a photographic and speculative research project about the balance between technological development and the natural world. Inspired by the traditional appearance of UFOs around the mountain of Montserrat, this project consists of the creation of a fictional photographic and audiovisual story based on the design of alien spaceships, using natural resources, specifically mushrooms.

Mushrooms were not chosen for this project by chance. There are several theories that suggest mushrooms are not of this world. Unlike any other form of life on our planet, fungal spores are almost ideally suited for space travel. They can survive vacuums and extremely low temperatures; the shell of a spore is one of nature’s most electron-dense materials, very similar to metal; global currents can even form on the near-metallic surface of a wind-blown spore, which can then repel the extreme radiation of space. It is difficult to believe that anything could evolve to become so suitable for exploring the Universe.

The project has been supported by Núria Gómez Gabriel.
