SAUNA GAG
Sauna GAG is a research project which explores contemporary gay subculture in Barcelona through events in the gay sauna as a shared space. It is a hyper-identity space where both gay successes and traumas flourish; where dynamics and events are triggered which in some way function as a mirror of who we are now and expose how we articulate ourselves as a social body.
Sauna GAG is a centre for creative action that draws on the dialectic between the audiovisual resources of the sauna (Just for Laughs Gags sketches, music videos with ads, homoerotic propographic videos and gay advertising) and the performativity of the gay body in the sauna (gaze, gesticulation, transit or occupation) as reasons to speculate on the composition of the current social body in a self-critical way and situated as a faggot in Barcelona and in a specialised ambience.
Sauna GAG takes us into illusory scenarios which at the same time disclose unfiltered reality; a physical, mental and sensorial experience in an enveloping atmosphere that at times is truncated and resembles a hidden camera.
The project has received support from Joan Morey.
