The proposal Ama ara l’eco nua gives rise to liquidities, unmade matter, or deconstructions of language through words, pronunciation, song, verbal or non-verbal articulation and silence. The desire arises for the body (to) pronounce itself and manifest itself as liquid and porous, for ecosystemic (1) sonorities to drain out of it and to invoke the inescapable interrelationship with the materiality – not only the remoteness (2) – of the sea.

Everything that emanates from this project/ritual leads to the creation of (en)chants: songs or poems created from an exploration of modulation and vocal tuning, breathing, meditation, as well as the engendering of an ecofeminist and post-humanist poetics, which invoke hydro-feminist sonorities and imaginaries. The project is rooted, like seaweed at the bottom of the sea, in local mythology (3) and tradition and proposes to revisit it from an eco/hydrofeminist and decolonial critique. It denounces the alienation, objectification and sexualisation suffered by the sea, its ecosystem and what it has meant metaphorically in anthropocentric and cisheteropatriarchal discourses that are still perpetuated through the habaneras (4).

Ama ara l’eco nua rewrites, resignifies and resonates the alienated image of the sea and also all the binary categorisation – the woman, the foreigner, romantic love, the inert sea – that the Eurocentric narrative drowns in the sea. All this is condensed in the creation of hydro-feminist habaneras and diverse sonorous-poetic (en)chants, through the invocation of fairies and mermaids, of ecosystemic sounds and decolonial critique, liquidities, flows, lunar and astrological language, perhaps also hydromancy or cledonomancy, exhalation and inhalation, and silence.
