LA TEORIA DELS DINOSAURES

La teoria dels dinosaures is a research project on the importance of childhood imaginaries, how they are generated and how we can support them. It takes dinosaurs as a case study, given their place in the world of children and the fascination they arouse.

Although there is not a single person who has ever seen a dinosaur, there are few kids who do not know how to draw one. For them, dinosaurs have something special: they are monstrous beings that straddle reality and fiction and pose questions about the meaning of life, the history of the Earth, the origins of humanity and even death.

While all the knowledge we have of dinosaurs comes from fossils and stones, today we are witnessing a reversal of the channels of learning. The consumer goods industry and the culture industry have exploited these prehistoric animals by defining a specific imaginary which children are almost obliged to accept.

What are the differences between real dinosaurs and those imagined by children? How have museology and representation affected our image of dinosaurs? What makes them so interesting? Why are adults not so fascinated by them? How can art engage with this process of discovery?

The project has been supported by Jordi Ferreiro.

In collaboration with Manifesta 15.
