ESTAT ETERI

Estat Eteri is about the creation of a videogame. It addresses the potential of virtual architecture based on a philosophical concept introduced by Jacques Derrida and explored by anti-capitalist writer Mark Fisher: hauntology, which addresses how elements of the past continue to influence the present.

Following a visit to the Sau Reservoir in 2023, this research project reflects on the feeling of suspension between the past and the future, and it explores how inert experiences and memories can impinge on contemporary perceptions of architecture and space. The idea of creating digital architectural structures from memories and imagined futures makes it possible to investigate the potential of virtual spaces and the ways in which the architecture of future buildings will be influenced by political and climatice events.

The videogame, an interactive narrative platform based on choices between A and B to get to the next scene, encourages players to explore their experiences and think about the relationship between memory, architectural spaces and time drawing on a minimalist artistic approach which challenges the conventions of digital storytelling. The goal is to craft a space for interdisciplinary collaboration which enhances the storyline and the player’s experience.

This project is supported by the Netherlands Stimuleringsfonds (Digital Culture Grant Scheme).

The project has received support from Albert Chamorro.
