CANTDEFINE.ME

Drawing on the image, this project seeks to capture various aspects of personal identity. Having been born into a mix of cultures (Lebanese and Polish), I created Cantdefine.me as a quest to redefine identity in a time when the concepts of belonging and home are blurred.

In a world in which we are disconnecting from each other, the idea is to promote an awareness that allows us to dissolve social borders, resist stereotypes and celebrate the diversity that surrounds us by intertwining the thousands of elements that, although opposed, still form a new culture.

In this project, I present images and video interviews of people of mixed origins with the aim of capturing aspects of their personal identity in relation to their origins, using printed fabrics as a substantial component of the images. The prints include elements that stand for the notion of identity (a type of food, a symbol of their childhood, etc.). The video interview compiles documentation from the multiple perspective of a single person, enabling the project to have a social impact and generate significant conversations to unite communities.

The project has been supported by Tania Adam.
