Sala d’Art Jove is a Government of Catalonia space which implements a series of experimental processes to interconnect artistic practice, work with young people, art education and cultural production. It is based on a networking model which enables projects to be articulated with different kinds of cultural and educational organisations and institutions, while also facilitating the dissemination of working processes that give back to the social and cultural setting in which they are located.

Sala d’Art Jove is based on an annual public call for applications aimed supporting the artistic creation and investigation projects of people under the age of 30 living in Catalonia, as well as mediation projects associated with contemporary art curatorship, education and management driven by people under the age of 35. Each year a working team is assembled with the agents chosen to produce the products and conceptualise and design the programming of exhibitions and activities. Therefore, Sala d’Art Jove can be viewed as a space of learning based on extensive collaborative and mentorship processes of the projects chosen.

Every year, an average of 20 projects are produced which span areas like artistic creation, investigation, education, publishing and intervention in specific contexts. The projects are currently produced in conjunction with museums and art centres in Catalonia and fall within their respective specialised areas and programmes: the creation projects are made in conjunction with Hangar, centre de producció i recerca d’arts visuals of Barcelona and La Escocesa, fàbrica de creació; the investigation projects with MACBA, the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona; the education projects with ACVic Centre d’Arts Contemporànies de Vic ; and the projects involving intervention in the territory with Lo Pati, Centre d’Art in Terres de l’Ebre.

The current Sala d’Art Jove team is made up of the curators Eva Paià and Javiera Cádiz Bedini, and Marta Vilardell, a culture officer at the Directorate General for Youth Affairs. Henceforth, the goal is to situate care and listening practices at the heart of all interventions by valuing the investigation processes of the proposals chosen as well as integrating counterhegemonic pedagogies and lessons that give space for other ways of doing things.

Sala d’Art Joven won the ACCA art critic award in 2009 and the Barcelona Town Hall’s City of Barcelona award for the visual arts in 2012.

The management team’s attention and advisement schedule is Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm at Sala d’Art Jove. You can contact them to confirm availability at hola@saladartjove.cat
