LES PARAULES FALLEN
This event is the outcome of a collaboration between Sala d’Art Jove and Espai nyamnyam. It moves the Sala d’Art Jove programme to Mieres with a curator’s workshop under the umbrella of the Esquinçar superficies project – led by Renan Camilo – and a showcase of the processes and works of several artists selected in the annual Art Jove Creació 2023 call. Also participating are Higo Mental (Sala d’Art Jove 2021), currently working on an editorial essay on their ten-year career.
PROGRAMME:
CURATOR’S WORKSHOP BY SALA D’ART JOVE WITH NYAMNYAM AND CULTURAL RIZOMA
Sala d’Art Jove views curatorship as a relational task involving all practices that seek to nurture the processes of artistic creation as well as their contextual and localised development. From this perspective, “nurturing a space or nurturing a project” involves a mentoring and listening process, attempting to understand the needs of the creators and audience.
“Rasgar superficios”, led by Renan Camilo, is the project selected in this year’s Sala d’Art Jove call. A series of events has been organised within the framework of this project, proposing a potential space for reflection, thought and action. This off-site event offers a curator’s workshop led by nyamnyam and Cultural Rizoma, two cooperatives in Girona province that nurture projects focused on research, production, mediation and the dissemination of culture and contemporary creation.
The workshop focuses on presenting the methodologies and projects through which the two entities bring into play their ways of understanding curatorial processes. Paying particular attention to the relationship between these processes and editorial practice, the workshop introduces the work being done under the framework of the ‘La imprenta abierta’ project – a platform for the production and dissemination of content linked to thought and contemporary creation promoted by nyamnyam and Cultural Rizoma – and proposes the activation of a set of materials and publications that will allow us to raise some questions surrounding editorial practice within the scope of contemporary creation.

HIGO MENTAL
#30: Índice. The internet as an archive, images from a material perspective and not simply as representation, the internet as an infrastructure. Visual culture, collective experience, presentiality and critical narratives. 2024 marks ten years since Higo Mental was conceived. Looking back, we realise that this project, based on a methodology as simple as a dialogue using material sourced from the internet, has the capacity to take us to other, far more complex spaces for reflection. Without moving far from this simplistic approach, this session aims to create an editorial essay; an exercise in translation of what we have been doing, made into a potential index that may well materialise in a book.
PRESENTATION OF ART JOVE CREACIÓ 2023 WORKS AND PROJECTS
Sala d’Art Jove is a Government of Catalonia space that rolls out a set of experimental processes to interrelate artistic practice, youth work, artistic education and cultural production.
It is also based on a networking model, meaning projects can be promoted with different types of cultural and educational organisations and institutions, while facilitating the dissemination of work processes that entail a return to the social and cultural environment in question. This year, in 2023, four of the projects by the artists selected will be presented at Espai nyamnyam:

BLANCA ARIAS AND GEMMA BELMONTE
“una amazona es una amante que cabalga” is a piece created by the Centre de Documentació de Ca la Dona, a work modelled by 22 flesh-and-blood hands and countless other, lifeless hands: those of the deceased who accompany us through archived documents, brought to life by our eagerness for genealogy. Through a dialogue between artist Blanca Arias, the driving force for the project, and Gemma Belmonte, in her capacity as a volunteer at the Ca la Dona Documentation Centre, we invite visitors to contemplate issues surrounding the space of affections in the archives, or the potential of touch as a lesbian feminist methodology.
LUCA CALDERÓ
Performative reading of “Cicatrices, tatuajes y ortopedias”. I try to add body, voice and image to the text on which my research focuses; on diagnosis, hospital infrastructure, queer-crip-ill alliances and the collectivity of disease. A text-body in which the essay, autofiction and other body writing exercises coexist.
HELENA LAGUNA
“Hacer un libro” is an open artistic and editorial research project, conceived as an attempt to create a book without using written language, drawing on its limitations to narrate the illiterate world view and the haptic dimension that envelops my grandmother’s ‘Manchego migas’ recipe. A book articulated beyond language while reflecting on it and its limits. Through this concept, we seek ways in which knowledge can be archived without words, inventing the potential granted to us by the potential artefact, body, footprint, processes or material substrates. A quest to materialise the language and give shape to the process.
PAULA GIBERT ROSET
“SORRY I’M SOOO HAPPY” is an investigation into the white T-shirt as a political banner and the process of depoliticisation and loss of meaning it has undergone. This project was created from a photography collection of more than sixty children’s T-shirts made during the summer of 2022 at the play centre where I worked. What all the T-shirts have in common is that the slogans are neither rebellious nor critical, they do not upset anyone; on the contrary, they are sweet, affectionate and in attractive colours. Several workshops were held to analyse the depoliticisation of the T-shirt slogans, culminating in a collection of 63 T-shirts. These pieces invite you to rethink the white T-shirt as a communicative object.
