D’UN PRONOM FEBLE MAL POSAT

D’un pronom feble mal posat is a research project based on the analysis of nuclear bunkers. Taking these defensive spaces as the objects of the study, the research focused on their historical appearance during the Cold War and in particular their presence in contemporary times. Give their survival over time, the project aims to reflect on the contemporary need for isolation in a place that shelters us from the outside world.

Their conviction stems from the emergence of ‘preppers’; individuals who, in moments of collective panic, prepare for emergencies. Similarly, public programmes in countries like Sweden, where the construction of bunkers continues today aiming to offer protection to the whole of the population.

At this point, the following questions arise: What self-contained ways of life persist in home interiors? What is the value of shelter when one is indefinitely isolated in small cabins? Tackling it from the perspective of contemporary thought, the research focused on the work of philosopher Peter Sloterdijk, above all his Spheres trilogy and proposal on ways of life in terms of the spaces around us being an immune system. Through this reference, the project puts forward the concept of the nuclear bunker as analogous to isolation in a space technically designed to be immune.

‘D’un pronom feble mal posat’ is the work of Gerard Galián as part of the collaboration between MACBA and Sala d’Art Jove. This project, selected in the research category of the Art Jove 2020 call, was supported by tutor María Íñigo who will present the activity.

The presentation will also include Raül Garrigasait, writer, translator and Greek scholar, and Lluís Giménez-Mateu, director of Barcelona School of Architecture’s (ETSAB) Architectural Representation Department.
