ESCENARIS DEL RESSÒ ROMÀNTIC: ABSENTA, FICCIÓ I NECROTURISME [SCENARIOS OF THE ROMANTIC ECHO: ABSINTHE, FICTION AND NECROTOURISM]

Escenaris de l’eco romàntic: absenta, ficció i necroturismo [Scenarios of the romantic echo: absinthe, fiction and necrotourism] is a gathering at the Bar Marsella to approach this place as a cultural device where memory, myth and consumption overlap, both the consumption of drinks and of a supposed local symbolic capital. The workshop begins from the bar’s ambiguous condition as heritage space, romantic scenography and tourist resource, in order to explore how certain places produce a fictitious temporal immobility, activating forms of narrative that become commodity value for the tourist vortex.

This workshop will trace a visual and political journey through Marsella and other similar examples, allowing us to think of the bar as a complex architectural object that not only contains modern legends, but manages them: a space where the romantic echo functions simultaneously as identity, brand and fetish. From this critical reading, the workshop will open up the possibility of imagining other hybrid models of management and creation linked to the place, with limited means, questioning the persistence of these “monuments” and the ways in which the city instrumentalises them.
