EL QUE NO ÉS UN ARBRE [What is not a tree]

Often, in the first chapter of botanical guides to trees, an attempt is made to define what trees are, a task that should belong to philosophers, according to biologist Francis Hallé. Through a publication in the form of a portable slide show, this publication presents research that studies tree metaphors and argues why most of them are obsolete.

This ongoing artistic research expands without hierarchy between different theoretical studies in the humanities -Deleuze, Calvino, Dümpelmann-, scientific research in the field of urban arboriculture -Hallé, Wohlleben, Drénou- and artistic representations where the tree has a special meaning: Perejaume, Abramović, McCarthy, etc.

I love lectures so much that I have been looking for ways of sharing this research through a portable slide presentation. The direct reference is the notebooks used by FREE TOURS tour guides. There are two ways to approach the book: as an attendee at a presentation – where you would only see the images – or as a reader – also reading the “presenter’s notes”.

This edition is the result of a collaboration between the Centre d’Art La Panera de Lleida and Sala d’Art Jove.
