All places talk about you

The environment conditions our forms of self-awareness. The environment composes us, transforms us, integrates us, and can even atomise those who inhabit it. Given this possibility, Jaume Clotet together with Pol Olivé, Juan David Galindo, Martí Madaula, and Pablo del Pozo conceive scenarios of resistance from a constructive gesture, an engineering drive that leads them to the creation of new surroundings.

The result consists of different sites that act as social and affective environments, with the capacity to be hostile but also to host and provide care and serve as a refuge. The need to physically intervene a place, not simply to imagine its mere representation, accentuates its not given, open character, that finally seeks the possibility of a co-dependence, of an immanence with the environment, beyond the confrontation with it.

In Jury: Episode 1. Cavern Swipe
Jaume Clotet & Pol Olivé

First chapter of a visual study around the idea of injury. The proposal addresses the idea of injury as an element of impact on visual culture that serves to reflect on issues such as wellness and identity. It establishes an ironic inflection between a technological imaginary that advances towards the idea of immortality, and the imaginary of physical exercise, as a way to wellness in the present and the near future. The injury thus acquires a dimension of boycott that reflects on notions of future, death, defeat or frustration.

The Other of Them and the Self
Juan David Galindo

For a whole year, the artist has documented all the advertising offered by Facebook and Google. As a self-portrait, he has created an archive that has allowed him to trace the way in which the algorithm of social networks categorizes and crystallizes his personality. The Other of Them and the Self is that personal archive that is shown here in the form of a large circular structure, a visual mechanism that problematizes the construction of the identity of the post-internet subject, identity traversed by the media, surveillance systems and marketing.

Coses que vull dir sobre un hivernacle
Martí Madaula

The artist investigates a childhood memory: the repeated refusal of his mother to have plants in his room because at night they emit carbon dioxide and could suffocate him. Returning to this frustrated desire, he has built a greenhouse-room where he could grow enough plants for this phenomenon to happen. The artist had to learn, from scratch, to build a greenhouse; a collaborative process that has involved a good number of people. The installation presents the resulting structure from this construction process in false real time where the artist wanted to explain some aspects, things that, in one way or another, he wanted to say about a greenhouse.

Bohío de muda
Pablo del Pozo

By developing different processes of poetic experimentation and the study of materials and objects from different sources, the artist approaches small actions of the past, which refer to his family environment in Badajoz. Bohío de muda is a mobile structure that recreates the rural architectures of Extremadura, which used to give shelter to shepherds and store cereals and tools. This work explores the intersections between absence, nostalgia and territory.
